After fourteen legacy building years, their long-time Town Manager pursued another opportunity within the region. The Gilbert Town Council is seeking an individual that will elevate this legacy, amplify the traditions and continue to advance service innovation for which the community is recognized. Gilbert is a Council-Manager form of government. The Town Manager reports to a seven (7) member Town Council, including a directly elected Mayor. All members serve four-year staggered terms with elections every two years.
Gilbert is a full-service municipality with a dedicated workforce of over 1,850 full-time equivalent employees. The current fiscal year 2025/26 budget of $2.49B supports seventeen (17) departments. Gilbert has no primary property tax. The Town Manager’s office includes four Assistant Town Managers who have varying degrees of responsibilities and oversight. The ideal candidate should encompass the qualities, traits, and skills that will serve the existing Town Council, future Town Councils and the community with skill, character, and adaptability.
Desired qualifications for prospective candidates include a Master's Degree (preferred) and 10 years of related experience including 5 years of progressively responsible municipal management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Experience in budget, finance, long-range financial and capital maintenance, repair and replacement, water resources in the Phoenix region, economic development, downtown, redevelopment, utilities, and general infrastructure associated with a full-service municipality is desired.
A credentialed manager certification (ICMA-CM) is preferred. This opportunity would be ideal for an existing Town or City Manager with similar experience in the issues and opportunities identified herein. However, an experienced Assistant Town Manager with a comparable organization and with experience as stated may be considered.
